Restoration
The FABULOUS 7 MOTEL neon sign is located on the grounds of the East County Transitional Living Center in El Cajon, California.
As this sign is currently in existence at this location, and this project will only be a restoration, it is fully approved and permitted.
Once the necessary funds are raised, the project will begin immediately.
Process
The sign will be removed from its current location with the use of a crane.
The sign will be taken by flatbed trailer to the San Diego Air & Space Museum where it will go the Restoration Facility. The Restoration Facility at the museum regularly restores, rebuilds and builds airplanes and spacecraft for display at the museum. The Museum has agreed to take on this restoration and will complete the structural, metalwork and paint to restore the sign to its original splendor.
Once the structure of the sign is restored, Neon Jungle of El Cajon will replace the electrical wiring, transformers, tubes and neon gas. The sign will be completely functional.
Once physical restoration is complete, the sign will be returned to the ECTLC by flatbed trailer. Using a crane, the sign will be replaced and reinstalled.
There will be a ceremony to commemorate the reinstallation, and after that, the sign will be fully functional and will operate nightly from dusk till dawn.
